Joining and pack life

Questions parents usually ask first.

What grades can join Pack 463?

Cub Scouts is organized by grade. Lion is kindergarten, Tiger is first grade, Wolf is second, Bear is third, Webelos is fourth, and Arrow of Light is fifth.

Can we visit before joining?

Usually, yes. Some activities are public-friendly and some are limited to registered families for safety and privacy. Contact the pack first so a leader can point you to an appropriate visit.

Do parents stay involved?

Yes. Cub Scouting is family-centered. Lion and Tiger Scouts work especially closely with an adult partner, and older dens still depend on family support, volunteers, and safe transportation.

How often does the pack meet?

Most families should expect a mix of den meetings, larger pack gatherings, service projects, outdoor activities, and seasonal traditions. Exact schedules are shared through leader communication and protected family channels.

Why are event locations not all public?

We work with children, so detailed event logistics are shared carefully. Public-facing pages can explain the program, while current family details belong in protected channels.

What does a new Scout need first?

Start with the right den, a conversation with a leader, and official registration guidance. Uniform pieces and patches can follow once the family knows the Scout's rank and pack details.

Uniforms and patches

Start simple, place patches with care.

Uniform details can feel fussy at first. The important pieces for Pack 463 families are the rank badges, World Crest, recruiter patch when earned, and the Pack 463 sleeve stack.

  • World Crest goes centered above the left pocket.
  • Rank patches go on the left pocket. Lion starts at 12 o'clock, then Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos follow clockwise. If a Scout joins later, the first qualifying rank patch goes at 12 o'clock.
  • Recruiter patch is a temporary patch worn below the right pocket.
  • Left sleeve carries the council shoulder patch, veteran bar, and Pack 463 unit numerals.
